Slattadale, Torridon, Scotland,A very fine winter morning that never-the-less had the appeal and warmth of a fine Spring morning, at least it did when the sun hit our location, revealed some wonderful ice contours in the frozen surface of Loch Maree around the periphery.Pentax 67II, 55-100 zoom, Polariser, 0.45ND grad + 0.3ND soft grad, f/22 at 1/2 Second, Fuji Velvia 50.

A pristine clear and cold winter morning at the sheltered bay on Loch

Maree known as Slattadale in the Torridon peaks of Scotland.

Since I figure you can handle some honest criticism I'd have to say that I don't think that this is one of your stronger images. It seems that you've tried to include too much in the frame between the foreground ice and the distant mountains/reflection (with a rather California-like, cloudless blue sky.) Plus the light is a bit unflattering on the trees on the left. Doing a browser crop I would prefer a horizontal crop/composition that just included the ice and water surface.

That being said, 99.9% of your portfolio includes images that I could only dream of making so take this critique with that perspective in mind ;-)

Hi David

I am fine with criticism, I don't necessarily agree but that is both yours and mine prerogative.  This image certainly hasn't resonated with others as much as it does with me.  I actually love the composition, love the ice patterns and the reeds and perhaps above all love the way it transports me back to that very fine morning beside Loch Maree.  I actually think the composition works really very well, almost to the design and meticulous precision of an ornamental garden yet this is wild and found.  The blue sky, well admittedly it wouldn't  normally be my preference but I do feel it suits the scene here.  Anyway that is my thoughts and no amount of me adding my personal thoughts on the matter will or should change the mind of anyone viewing it.  I am sure I will be able to find another image that you will enjoy much more.
