One of a series of images taken as part of a photo ecology project, which

involves recording the fauna, flora, rocks and human artefacts at the same site

over a six month period. This image, taken in Spring, shows ants enjoying the

sticky surface of Xerochrysum viscosum (Sticky everlasting).

Very interesting to look at. I've never seen ants do this. Just started doing macros so I never really paid attention to ants before.

Hi Anne, thanks for your visit and comment.  These everlastings are also attractive to other insects, which sometimes go to sleep among the petals, almost as if they're intoxicated.  Makes it very easy to take their picture!

By the way, though it doesn't apply in this case, one of the things I like best about macro photography is discovering the tiny bugs and spiders that are lurking on the flower or leaf, visible only after you've enlarged the picture to full size on the screen.

Margo,I like a lot how this flower looks, very nice details with a difficult color(yellow),the essential is the flower and you did it so good, not so delight by the left whatever it is,bg blur leaf fit here, just my opinion.

Hi Radu, thanks for your feedback.  I wanted to include the blurry purple grass blade to relieve the starkness of the yellow.  However, I'll try to soften its impact a bit and will also work further on the cropping as I don't think I have the balance quite right yet.

Margo, great image. I would go careful with the crop. I think just blur the left background and reasess.Good detail and I like the feeling of activity. Best regards Col.
