I think we could be fooled into thinking this was a great portrait because it's of a seasoned older man and is in black and white. That would be to miss a lot. His engagement with the camera, the implied movement of his hair and the stateliness with which he holds himself are all important aspects of this photo, not to mention your straightforward approach to the composition, the processing, and the perspective. Others would choose to over-sharpen his beard and features, rendering this a caricature of old age. It is done so often that it's become quite annoying. You have chosen to be genuine about it, and one can feel that. The eyes have an inviting softness and catch the light enough to engage the viewer but aren't overdone like so many eyes are these days. Your understated approach honors your subject, the kind of subject which is much more often exploited, especially in PN galleries. This is an iconic photo in so many ways and yet remains humble and subtle. That's a tough balance to achieve. A very admirable and successful portrait. Bravo!
