For once, I don't care if an image has been digitally manipulated or enhanced. This one has an alien-like quality to it that appeals to me. Nickola Tesla also popped into my mind when I first saw this one.

As someone else mentions here, we've all seen flower shots. I've even attempted a couple, myself...but it never crossed my mind to take it to this level.

I think this is excellent work.

frequently digitally altered photographs lack style and effect... your abstract here, Radu, is fascinating and metaphorically powerful. congratulations and bravo, my friend ;-} dp

Congrats to PoW Radu!

This is very much art. Using flower to create energy electrifies. Or lets say - flower power.

Well done.

Kind regards

I don't see any weakness in this image. It is absolutely gorgeous! My sincere congrats on the selection which is richly deserved. I apologize for not seeing it before as I was on a cruise.

I have no idea what I'm looking at, but whatever it is (apparently a flower) shows intensity and amazing beauty. I'm compelled by it to wonder what it is, which makes it successful in my mind. I love the idea of taking an object and making it look like something it isn't, whether that's intentional or not. I love the implied movement from left to right, even though I feel it's a bit too crowded on the right side against the edge of the frame. But the color, lighting, and eye that it took to make this image make it a clear winner.

I just visited Radu's gallery for the first time. It is full of absolutely stunning images, in case any of you have not seen his work. Beautiful work.

My reaction to Radu's photograph to be critiqued this week is similar to that expressed by John A. I really like the effect of the background -- I think it exemplifies the idea of "energy" very well. The software work has made the petals look like electric arcs or plasma flows, a great expression of energy. The unmanipulated upper portion of the reproductive portions are, I think, the "clunky" parts that John referenced, and they are quite in contrast to the energy portion. My thought was that this was the "apparatus" producing the energy -- that was the way my mind reconciled the two very different looking portions of the image. That interpretation works for me. Regardless, I appreciate and enjoy the experimentation, the development of an image to express or represent a different concept, especially one that is not normally associated with flowers.

I don't think I have anything to suggest regarding the upper portion. I'm content to leave it as the energy-generating device. However, because experimentation is the name of the game, I think Radu ought to give this some thought and see what creative alternatives he might come up with the unmanipulated portion of the photograph. Congrats on being selected for the critique of the week -- it was a good choice on the part of the elves.

Radu has amplified the beauty of the pallet of the back petals by smoothing the textures and forms found therein. At the same time, his treatment of the background has natural, soft and petal-like form.
There is the feeling of energy. It is not the kind that one would get with sparks or a square waveform buzz. It is the soothing kind that comes in a low frequency hum. You know the energy is there; but it isn't going to suddenly leap out and harm you.
Great choices and creativity Radu, and congratulations!

Congratulations Radu on the recognition of your work. Personally I like what you have done to this otherwise relatively ordinary image. It is no longer really an image of a flower (or its parts), but an abstract image, and as such, Energy is as good a name as any. If one wishes to study the image, there are many lines, colors, and contours for your eyes to view. Great work, thank you for sharing.

I am in John A's camp on this one. The center of attention, in the foreground, has an odd, awkward shape and doesn't seem to have any aesthetic connection with the background. I can see how sharp the droplet of water is and thus how much attention was given to the making of this photograph; nevertheless, it doesn't seem to work as a whole. There are many pictures throughout Radu's folders that work much better than this one and that I like much more than I do this one.
