animalu 0 Posted May 3, 2001 I dodged and burned only the top part of the clouds in this and wanted opinions on that. This is a digital image processed in Photoshop. Link to comment
denise_duhamel 0 Posted May 3, 2001 I like this shot - Looks like a stairway to nowhere. Personally, I would have tried a little different angle - to crop out the sign Avenue A entirely - but that's only my personal preference. I think that would have been a more interesting theme. Overall not a bad shot Link to comment
dtrust 0 Posted May 3, 2001 Perfect example of when B&W has it all over color. Great shot. Love the contrast. Link to comment
robd 0 Posted May 4, 2001 I love the full range of gray's you are able to pull out in your shots. I admire your work. Link to comment
jim hathaway 0 Posted May 7, 2001 Very nice photo overall. Captures a sense of place time and feeling. You could have reframed to crop out the sign as has been suggested but that would be a different photo. So this subject is worthy of two photos. But I like this one, the balance of ground and sky is very well done. You must have developed and printed this yourself? I can't get my local lab to print this quality of tonal range. Link to comment
beth_creswell 0 Posted July 31, 2001 I disagree with the cropping suggestions...you'd lose the uniqueness of the picture and definitely compromise the character of the subject. If the subject is a stairway to nothing in particular mysteriously marked Avenue A (or seems to be anyway), then portray that character--the value is in the out-of-the-blueness. i join others in awe at the tonal range. here and in 'poles' you've achieved seemingly impossible range from white to black not only in the photo overall but also in the clouds alone and in the ground alone...HOW? robertbrown 1 Posted July 31, 2001 I really don't like the cropping idea--makes it a new photo, but not an improved one. Link to comment
maria_s. 1 Posted August 8, 2001 A great shot, so spacious and unquieting ... burning and dodging are not intrusive so you did a good job and the sky it's not overly dramtic. I agree with a comment about cropping & taking Avenue A out ... Of course, you would come with an entirely different picture -- Stairway to Heaven instead of Avenue A Link to comment
mg 0 Posted December 4, 2001 Overall, I liked your portfolio, but this one and another one caught my eye... I might have enjoyed to see also a totally different and more spectacular angle for this shot, and to compare. Your angle is great and smart, since it reflects peace in the "Avenue"... Could have been interesting too to use a different angle to suggest a future awakening of this lost place... But that would just be another possibility, and not a better possibility... steve_bingham 0 Posted December 18, 2001 Jeff, this is still one of my favorites. A very strong image. Link to comment
arnie1 0 Posted February 7, 2002 This image really grabs me and draws me in. There are three elements, the stairway, the street sign, and the sky. They don't compete but complement. The image would be less without any one of them. Well executed technically as well. Link to comment
