Thanks to you all for your recent visits!

In having the privilege to observe these nests, I've gotten to know some of the local folks who have stopped and talked with me, although they seem to be more curious about my gear than what the Eagles are actually doing!

Anyway, I've learned that last year the nest was blown down during a late February storm and contained 3 chicks. The adult Eagles would have nothing to do with them just afterwards. So, the local people built a wooden  box in the tree and gathered what remained of the nest. They gathered road kill, carrion and other meat to feed the 3 chicks. After about two weeks the adult Eagles started caring for the chicks again in the manmade nest box. (I've also been informed that they had some help from the Oklahoma Dept. of Natural Resources too.)

Two of the 3 chicks survived, and I understand that Radio Collars were placed on them by a "study group" of some sort. One of the local folks advised me that there was a website to track them but I can't remember it offhand but, he advised that the last he had checked in late January this year, one was in Iowa and the other juvenile was in North Texas.

Unfortunately for this year, I think I observed one of the mature Eagles removing a dead chick from the nest, and I've not observed either of the adults remaining on the nest and, most recently I am observing only one mature Eagle hanging around nearby. This is the nest in the Cow Pasture.

However, the nest down below the damn on the river I think does have chicks this year. Always an adult on the nest!

Thanks again,

Jim j.
