This is a beautiful image with just the right feel for the season now ending. I love the way you used color here to further emphasize the ripples in the snow.

I've come back to this image a few times now, and each visit has bought conflicting thoughts. I have on occasion been unsure as to the colours, the level of saturation and the white balance, indeed I still am, but more and more I'm starting to believe that this is both intentional and very well done. The snow is far too blue to be natural, especially as the sun is yet to set, but it contrasts beautifully with the orange of the sun and conveys a mood of cold reserve, of being on the outside looking in - the warm inside being represented by the golden rays of the sun. Rays that look like someone is grinding metal in the forest. I take it that it was snowing when you took this, and just as well, because the flakes caught in the sun look like sparks of flaming metal. You call this shot Shadow, but the shadow only serves to lead us into the frame to the focal point of the perfectly sharp tree surrounded by flame. I associate with the tree (as much as you can with a piece of wood), and really get a strong feeling of being an uninvited guest at a private gathering. It really seems as though I am viewing the back of that tree, and the others, and that all focus is on whatever luminous performance is in front of, and being viewed by, them. Or something. I'm still not sure, but I'm almost certain that against my initial instincts, I like it! Scott
