mark_palma 0 Posted April 30, 2001 I woke up from my couch and caught my dog sunbathing. I loved the lighting so i quickly grabbed my digital camera. Unfortunately it was taken at the lowest resolution. Then my batteries ran out before i could take more. Converted to grayscale in photoshop Link to comment
kyorston 0 Posted May 1, 2001 Mark, I love this photo. For a spur-of-the-moment picture, it has a remarkable 'planned' look about it. Well done. I'm just a beginner myself, but I know what I like. Link to comment
ken_zeman 0 Posted May 6, 2001 This is a wonderful picture that IMHO could be improved with just a little cropping. Try croping out the wooden banister on the right and just the lighter wooden panneling on the left. Your dog then seems to be floating in space. It might be a good idea in the future to never plan you shots and just take them spontaneously. Just kidding! Link to comment
jennybrown 0 Posted August 8, 2001 The photo is gorgeous; smooth (almost rendered-looking) banisters and stairs. Perfect lighting. The only issue is cropping, and I'm attaching a picture with my recommendation. Essentially the way I tried to crop is was to remove some of the unnecessary dark space, and get the dog out of the bullseye center; but still keep it balanced. With some experimenting I decided that worked best to leave mental space for the step above him and the step below him. This ends up putting a stair line in the 1/2 location on the photo, but in this case I think that works, for two reasons: 1- it doesn't connect to the edges of the image to actually divide it; 2- it puts the dog just above center, in the location our eyes tend towards (almost the 1/3 area, really).
