Gorgeous light, color and composition. Just right. Congratulations.

Is this for real? I think it's an excellent photo, but it just strikes me as too surreal. Example: the light on the fence is coming from the right, but it would appear that the main source of light is setting behind the structure, meaning any light coming from this source would be on the other side of the fence. Same with the structure itself - it appears to be lit from the right, rather than from the rear-left.

Not doubting you, if this is just pure timing and you caught the light at this incredible phase, great! If not though, please let us in on it! :)

It is a wonderful image. Please tell me what settings and mode you used to grab this one. It is appealing to all of the senses... except for smell.. although it does evoke the smell of a summer evening just after it stopped raining and the sun peeks out just before sunset. You have made my day with this one. Bravo!

Jason is right about the lighting angles in this image, they don't make sense. It's possible for a scene like this to exist, but you would need to travel to another planet that orbits 2 suns. Here on earth this doesn't happen. In addition to the points Jason has made the grass is also lit with direct sunlight, and judging be the shadows the sun is indeed off to the right.

From your description Carol you seem to be saying that you were driving by and found this scene as we see it here. This looks very much like a composite to me. I have no problems with composites, if they are described as such.

incredible atmosphere!

it really looks unreal, but apart from the light not seeming to fit, i can't find any trace of composite manipulation, and i doubt it is...

pity that there's no further statement from the artist...

Ok, I was out of pocket on business for a couple of days and come back to see the attention this photo created. As per the comments from the exceptionally observant, let me clarify my enhancements in PS: the sun was off to the right and not in my desired view (I wanted to include those cool clouds leftover from hurricane claudette in the shot). So I "burned" some sunshine in behind the entrance structure (using air brush or dodging, brightness adjustments and blurring). Now that I look at it closer, it's a little bit sloppy near the archway and the light should have been carried more to the right. Other color changes included selective burning, saturation and adding more yellow to color balance to warm it up. That's as much as I can recall from my PS session. The fence is not pasted in, it was left where it was -- my DOF could have been better on that too as pointed out. Thanks to all for looking and commenting on this one! I still have much to learn from y'all.

P.S. Look at my photo called "Cedar Fence" to see this same scene taken during the morning in early spring. You'll see this fence from a bit of a different angle and with different light. The structure is actually an elaborate entrance to a ranch community with a road running in between the two lighted arched stone structures.

I love this photo, your effort was worth to do. I also go often to one place near my living place which has a fence...
