Iridescent Fly Portrait

mplonsky

It is a very elusive creature (at least at the 1 to 2 inch working distance that my setup gives), so I was pleased to finally get a shot of it that is worth sharing. It is so tiny that the photonet large version of the image is cropped but not resized. I chose to put what little DOF the camera gives at this magnification all on the head and face.

Since macros are about details, I encourage viewing at the larger size.

You hit this one spot on! I really like the greens splashed around the photo... this little guy on a leaf or some other green backing gave this shot that little extra imo because of the green iridescence of the eyes and back... perfect use of that tiny DOF in getting the eyes just right. One of your best tight macros... you must coat the back of that lens with sugar... lol... ;-)

While I read your image posting, I saw that I had not made a good croping of my shot. I would lke that you return see my shot and give me a comment. Thank you and congratrulation for your wonderful macros.

I have never considered insects to be beautiful. This photo has certainly changed my thinking! Wow... beautiful iridescent greens and blues. Your macro work is amazing, as are your subjects. The architecture and engineering behind these teeny creatures becomes more evident by viewing your work! Congrats on a very cool photo and folder.
