This man works a 12 hour day 6 days a week. For this, he is paid a few

hundred dollars a month if that. He gets to go home once every two years.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Rob

Hi Rob,

I'm a beginner so for me this is technically a wonderful portrait. The quality is superb.

Unlike your caption however, the composition of the photo doesn't tell me anything about the man's working or living environment. The photo tells me that he's a man and nothing more.

Some background information in the photo would (for me) have made for a stronger image.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Thank you for a thoughtful comment Mike.

I have to say that it was very much my intention not to include anything about the actual work this guy does.  There wasn't actually any way I could have anyway as I took this as he was waiting for his bus.

I guess what I was trying to do here is to ask the viewer to make their own judgements.  Perhaps I shouldn't have included a description.

Anyway, cheers!

Rob

Rob - you captured something very special here. I did not need the background info because the images speaks for it self. The gaunt look and almost bulging eyes could make one uncomfortable. Uncomfortable because many who live in affluent societies don't know what it is to struggle to make 'ends meet'. Because of the 'hungry' look and the intense or perhaps weary eyes, I decided to strip away most of this image so that I could focus on the aspects that caught my attention, No artistic decision is wrong or right and my version may not appeal to you but at least you can see it through my eyes.
