Spent the day at the Lewis & Clark State Park and the Oxbow lake.

Although I was hoping to get some shots at the Bald Eagles of which

only two very shy ones were observed and keeping their distance.

There were still several hundred American White Pelicans on the lake

so I ended up spending the day with them. It was a good day. I

concentrated on some different metering and tried to capture as much

action as I could as the lighting was really nice.

Your time, valuable comments/critiques and ratings are greatly

appreciated!

Back to post processing . . .

Thanks again,

Jim j.

Nice shot Jim. Thanks for your comment on mine.

Regarding metering - have you tried the "Sunny f16 Rule"?

Basically, for a medium toned, frontally lit subject on a sunny day, it means that the starting point for your exposure is f16 and the reciprocal of your ISO setting (eg 200 ISO = 1/200 sec). You can adjust aperture and sspeed from there. Then, for a white subject close down 1 or 2 stops and a dark subject open up 1 or 2 stops. This was the info printed inside Kodak film boxes for decades - it works and it's foolproof with consistent lighting. If my explanation above is too brief, you can Google it. Then again, I might be trying to tell you how to suck eggs?

All the best, Ford

Great timing to freeze this showoff in full action in front of the gallery.Nice full deploy and brake splash;against the dark water surface, this makes for an excellent image!

I think the 3 pelicans gave him a '10' for this landing, don't you?  Nice series, Jim.  I had never seen white pelicans until this past summer.  There were a bunch of them in (of all places) Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.  I intend to post a picture of them when I get around to it.
