Assateague Pony in the Reeds

The Pony's of Assateague Island are found in Maryland and Virginia.

About 150 animals on each side of the border. There is not a definite

date of origin as to when the ponies established themselves on this

strip of land. Theories range from the Spanierds releasing them, to

farmers releasing them (to avoid taxes) in the 1700's. However they

got there it's worth a trip to see them.

What a lovely capture Holger and such a great story to go along with it. We've never been out to the coast in those States, ususally when we go to South Carolina we use the fastest route to our destination, but we are missing qutie a bit along the way. I'd love to see these horses.

I find the history of the introduction of these Horses very interesting. Not only those where you photographed her, (I think it's a Mare) but also throughout North America.
