... just kidding.

I think this is a thought provoking image. It isn't pleasing to the eye, but if it were, it wouldn't be effective. It makes you stop & think. It is chilling & scary & I think the overcast sky is perfect for it. Also the muted colors of the house. It is drab & lifeless. Then you ahve the pink sleeves & the flag which are like tiny little punches of color through all that bleakness. Yup... an ugly picture & I like it.

Evokative image, but one would think you could have chosen a better hose to do it with. Focus seems very soft, esp in the foreground.

I agree with Stefan--potentially terrific image. The suburban house, gardener, American flag, contrasted with the blight of industrial/nuclear realities is quite nice. I'd go back and shoot this with a tripod @ f22, possible with black and white film and red filter. If you stick with color, at least get a polarizer. This is a great idea, but not very well executed.

It almost looks as if the person is next to a grave! As others said, in mono with a bit more contrast it would be wonderfully ugly!

Great comments. Thanks. I certainly understand and appreciate the technical merit scores, but going back is not an option. I was driving around for several hours in dreary weather, killing time, waiting to catch a plane in Pittsburgh, when I drove by this scene. This is the kind of shot I live for. And if I get one a year, I feel really lucky, notwithstanding its/my technical flaws. Also please keep in mind that this proud homeowner working in her yard is not a model, nor would she find this scene "ugly" and "ironic," as I did and you all do now. She did give me permission to shoot her and her husband came out later and also agreed. The real technical achievement for me is getting an image like this and not getting punched out.

Not pretty, but original. I think I'd move.

Technically speaking I'm not sure if it would have been possible, but it would have been a better photo if the tree didn't obscure the left tower and the roof of the house didn't obscure the right tower. The power lines crossing the vapor from right tower is great irony.

I think maybe a closer vertical shot with just the garden, flag, power lines, and right tower would have made more of an impact. Maybe not... You could always pray for storm clouds, lol. Thanks for posting :o)
