brla 0 Posted July 13, 2003 Yes it is surreal. Before I read the title, I thought it was like something out of a David Lynch movie...very interesting coloration and effectively unnatural sharpness. Link to comment
patricia_eifel 0 Posted July 13, 2003 I like the perspective, composition. Colors are vibrant although I think this would have been good with more natural colors as well. Good photograph with or without frame! Link to comment
michael_ward1 0 Posted July 13, 2003 We usually win by tightening up our photos, not by making them looser. This one, however seems to be just tight enough. And the colors - I've seen colors just like this once or twice in my life. As in Regina's previous shot, I can just feel the chill in the air as the last of the sunlight is muted by the approaching storm. What a wonderful capture of a precious moment. Link to comment
jimmcnitt 0 Posted July 14, 2003 A strong composition and a powerful mood created, in part, by the contrast between the dark sky and bright, diffuse dsunflowers. Great work, Regina. Link to comment
root 0 Posted July 14, 2003 Nice compostion. In the category of "most of us would have missed it." The colors are plausible, but from the title, I gather you spent some time increasing contrast and making the whole image darker than it would appear in reality. Link to comment
jim schwaiger 0 Posted July 15, 2003 It does appear to be unnaturally dark to me as well. The reflections off the plants may be what makes this seem to be impossible lighting, but it is still a nice image. The only other thing Id like here is a lower angle so a couple of sunflowers would break through the horizon. Link to comment
karen_siebert 0 Posted July 15, 2003 This is beautiful. Colors are vibrant and bright. Love the dark blue sky. Composition is quite pleasing. Great job. And the frame does not bother me at all - it is not overbearing Link to comment
fred_j._lord 0 Posted July 16, 2003 It's a very dramatic and compelling image. I've seen days like this with the thunderstorms building ominously in the west. The sunny peaceful idyllic foreground is in direct contrast to what we feel may be coming our way. Truly nice. I say that framing is a personal choice and, as it doesn't affect my health, I couldn't care less if the images are framed or not. Link to comment
ann_mester 0 Posted July 17, 2003 I think the surreal colors work well here.FWIW I prefer it without the frame, but I almost always do. Link to comment
lisa_m._holley 0 Posted July 20, 2003 Definitely a keeper, Regina. A great composition all the way around as far as I am concerned. Extremely nice work. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted July 21, 2003 I guess you must have increased the saturation along with the contrast, and usually a little of that goes a very long way. In this case, however, I really love the effect, and it truly is surreal. Link to comment
1000wordsphotography 0 Posted July 21, 2003 The colors remind me a lot of your shot of the storm coming across the south pasture. I believe it was taken from your porch?? Same kind of light, I just pumped it up a notch or two and added a bit of disfuse glow to make the flowers stand out. Thanks for the comments Lannie, always a pleasure. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted July 24, 2003 Thanks for remembering, but you nailed it with the dark sky in the background and the bright sun in the foreground--with bright yellow flowers at that. Even the dirt in the plowed rows is interesting, Regina! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 9, 2003 This is one of my favorite of all of your work. It's not what I would normally think of when I think of sunflowers. :-) Great garden, path, field in the background, blue sky, DOF ... nice work!! Link to comment
