These guys are so cool. I come across a few of these ring necks every season. They turn up in wood piles or under planks left lying on the ground.

I like the depth of field used here, nice sharp focus on the eye. I generally prefer insitu shots of wildlife but sometimes a clean background makes the subject stand out nicely, as in this instance.

I found a smooth green snake while mowing my lawn earlier this summer and I took a photo with a white piece of foamcore as the background.
