Hi Brian, Regarding your and my other comments on previous posts.... keep plugging away, your photos are very close, but they don't always measure up to what a lot of very talented photogs at this site are doing.

I think that your understanding of light and use of backgrounds is very good, and of composition, ok. You seem to have developed a style, and it is fair, but you might consider departing from it to get more dynamics and immediacy(sp). Your images often seem to be taken surrupticiously (sp) and half heartedly. You think that you are still learning, but in reality, I think that you have shot enough film so that your images should be producing better results, not just appreciated amoung a circle of friends. Be brave, be strong. You seem to have a lot of goodwill from the people you know, don't waste your models, energy, or zietgueist(sp).

I can offer these suggestions: Know who you are; models and friends or your mom have no idea how good the image is going to be when your shooting, ignore their impressions be courageous, outrageous and confident. Work to get those images. The proof of the pudding is in the tasting. Make a good presentation for prints.

Get in the model's face. Work with him/her to do something wild. dynamic. Where are the outakes from the woman w/cigar. Do you know how close that shot was? Very, had you posed her with a couple of business men, or some interest in the background, or with a male model, it could have been great. You know what your doing with backgrounds and light, take it further. Don't be timid...

Try moving closer, shoot so that you can touch the model to adjust their postition, and shoot with the other hand.

"People will do whatever you want for three minutes"- my wife told me that. Make sure your equiptment is ready, and shoot fast. Pump the subject up in one minute, and get them to do the most, the best.

to do this Have a pre=plan of action, words, poses, scenarios, camera techniques, ready, at your finger tips, and run through them as you shoot.
