I like it! Quite a "formal" pose for a budding flower. Very clear and crisp.

Peter, It's a great concept of a just emerging flower from its bud, but the execution just doesn't quite do it for me.  If you wanted a closer up/macro image, why not try a closer crop? Right now it's not a macro image, nor a really interesting flower composition, but rather somewhere in the middle.

Doug and Pierre, thank you for your comments. Joel the idea was to try and bring out as much detail in a small object as possible. I don't think I was considering whether it was a macro shot or an interesting flower composition, in a pleasing sort of way, but rather an attempt at producing a sharp detailed image. As such you are correct, it does tend to be somewhere in the middle.
