dougityb 0 Posted July 9, 2003 Same girl as before? I would much prefer to look at this woman's face with out the distraction of the bright spot on the wall. If the bright spot were set there for the purpose of informing the viewer "This is the direction that the light is coming from," then, in my opinion, it doesn't need to be anymore than one or one and a half stops brighter than anything else. I can't think of any other reason for making it so bright. It's so bright, in fact, that it tends to draw attention away from the subject and to the photography, which makes the subject not necessary, in a funny sort of way. The pose is really nice in the way the shoulders support the head. In fact, the whole image reminds me of a famous egyptian bust of Queen Nefertiti (sp?), which I'm sure you've seen. It's very elegant. And the light on her face is really nice, too. and I just saw your camera type. I had that same camera in my first four years! Link to comment
caltha 0 Posted July 21, 2003 I really like the lighting and colours. Great, a bit sad expression. Good choice of angle. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 25, 2003 Jesus, all this time and I thought I had commented on this. Sorry about that. First off, I think the lighting is very interesting, giving that soft luminosity to the face while silhouetting the rest of her head. It gives the effect of looking at a Roman cameo. For some reason, the silhouetting creates distance and unknowability but still offers us a small opportunity to peer inside her by virtue of light falling on her face. If I had any issue its with the background and that can be easily corrected. Overall, it works well. I like the chances you are taking, Sean, with lighting and with composition. Keep it up.
