I was photographing my flip flops in the sand to play around with

depth of field when this lady walked by in the distance. I thought

the flip flops were an interesting play upon the fact she was walking

ACROSS the beach, while my flip flops were "walking" straight.

Do you like this image?

I like it, and i find it interesting that what is in focus are tire tracks in the sand that are going parallel to the beach...the depth of field is nice, the flip flops become these large abstract forms...and i like the color...

Well, ok, it´s a bit out of focus and a little too much magenta, but what can you do at that time of the day? The flip flops are a bit too distracting like that, maybe you should have put the camera on the floor completely...

I didn't have my towel with me. :) I don't think putting a camera on the sand is very advisable :)

I sort of kept the magenta tint on purpose. I might resubmit this with some color correction. I'll see what I want to do soon....

Amazing what you can do with a Brooklyn Beach! This is quite inventive; I for one don't mind the magenta - it adds to the dreamy quality. I also like that the main subjects (stranger and flip flops) are blurry...this suggests a lazy afternoon on the beach, with daydreams the only intrusions...very nice!

the colors are very rich and beautiful that time of day! I like your connection with the foreground sandals and the background lady - with either missing, this photo would be the poorer

I have now seen this a couple of times...and first I thought I don't rate/comment it, because there is not enough DOF (for me)..but who cares..it's great image anyway! Maybe it's just the way you have focussed it, what makes it look good.

The picture works the way it is. I think I would have focused on the shoes more but then I like sharp focus and lots of DoF. 5/4

Nice one Laura!

The three elements (flip flops, tire tracks and passer by) combine into quite an excellent photo. Personally speaking I think the focus point is perfect.

Cheers,

This is actually quite nice--quite sylized with colors and playful dof. Should have gotten much better ratings (but who cares, right?).

I like the mood on this one.

The magenta cast gives a late afternoon touch. It gives an warm and soft sense like no other color.

The flip-flops on the bottom of the picture with the stranger on the top of it give a great perspective.

But the best is the blur. It makes all looks life a daydream. It's really a nice touch.

Don't judge a person until you've walked a mile in their shoes, because then when you judge them, not only are you a mile away, but you also have their shoes.

Another wonderful shot, another strong composition. You have a natural eye for compostition involving combination of close by and far away objects. Beatuifully done.

Yes Laura, this one is superb. It's not just the composition and the colour scheme, but the story that it tells .. shoes are made for walking after all.
