I got to church this morning a bit early so i took a walk in a park just off stanley street in Montreal. I managed to position myself so that there was shade in the background and I used NX Capture to darken the background further. This is with natural light. I also used a circular polarizer filter to further reduce any reflections in the background.

I am hesitant to produce this type of image because I am not sure that I bring anything fresh that a 1000 other photographers have not done already.  I know some of my other florals have been described as 'artistic', surreal, expressionistic and I think that is a positive thing which is something I try and achieve but mostly not too successfully.

Is this something you like? Do you think it is excellent or perhaps just average.

I also loaded another image recently - --- "Secret garden reveals itself" which feeds my soul more  than this one but perhaps it is a bit too abstract or artistic for your tastes.

I like this picture. Good dof and very efficient black background. Con gratulations. Yves P.

Yves, I appreciate your visit and kind words. All of the very best,

PS You are correct when you mention "Firework". Perhaps that should have been the title.

The title is the same as James Harriot's book.  And, it's followed by "The Lord God Made Them all".  Maybe the Sunday walk inspiration?  Harriot supplies some of the best reading there is.  And, I really enjoy this photo.  I can't see enough flowers, nature's counter to the daily BS to which we are all exposed. I'd say 6...Aloha.

I love the other better.  With the black background, the subject is standing out more.  Very good one.  Best regards,

Dominick - thanks. It was a  'Sunday Morning Inspiration' for the title and it is also the first line of a popular church hymn. I was more familiar with the writings of CS Lewis but I will definitely acquire one or two of Harriot's books as I did a quick check with Amazon.com.

There are other reasons why I decided to capture this image and thus far the reactions have been positive.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess it all depends on whether you want something a bit softer. This photography 'thing' still fascinates me that I could visit the same garden and take these shots a few minutes apart and get such different results.
