human images 4 Posted July 6, 2012 my man gordon, what a beautiful piece -- strong, seriously gallery worthy piece of work! Link to comment
3m 0 Posted July 8, 2012 The moth evokes a sense of 16th & 17th century 'Vanitas' still life paintings, although your B&W rendering of this 'Moth on Tree Bark' has a much more profound graphic impact... I really like the effect of the moth against the subtly toned, yet crisp details of the bark... A very striking photo & one that needs to be seen large indeed... Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted July 8, 2012 Gordon, this sings. I love the B&W and particularly the area below the moth. It balances the image beautifully. I can't explain it but it really moves me as few images do. Link to comment
gunnar1664882369 1 Posted July 9, 2012 The B&W works here like it is engraved or letter-press printed. I admire the quality of this work (as usual with your images) and it is a nice work of art. Very nice contrast under the great control. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 12, 2012 I like the strength (brazenness), with which you approached this. A delicate scene made bold, a hardened take on a natural subject. It becomes as solid as a statue. The details and texture really capture the imagination here, from the threadlike hairs at the tips of the wings to the almost wormlike design at the bottom area of the frame. The starkness of the contrast, the slight tilt to the moth, it's location in the frame with just enough more room on the bottom to preserve energy, and particularly the direct hit which almost makes me feel as though I'm looking DOWN at it, which I like, all conspire to create a very rich photo, complete with the craftsman's hand and the seeker's eye. dseltzer 0 Posted July 18, 2012 Fred identified and described most of this image, but I'll add my 2¢ worth anyway, of course! To me, this showcases just about everything one might cite as important to good B/W work. The contrasts, sharp and soft lines, multiple and complimentary textures, and excellent lighting all collaborate to make this an outstanding photo. It looks like you may have dodged the plant material at the bottom just a tad, and the sheen off its texture is a wonderful balance for the soft but bright moth. This image really caught my eye and I've wanted to spend time just experiencing it and wandering around in it. It's been a delightful journey! Warm regards,David Link to comment
jenkins 0 Posted August 4, 2012 Moth on Tree Bark? Sounds like a Classical piece and it is. I'm thinking Silence the Lambs here not sure why but something is wrong, fabulous processing, intriguing. Link to comment
