gerald_widen 2 Posted July 17, 2012 The ratings for this photo are pretty low at 3.40. I am interested in what people don't like about the shot and why. This is how we learn and get better. My inspiration for putting it up and the title "The Creation of Adam" was based on Michelangelo's fresco on the Sistine Chapel. My feeling generally in posting a photo for critique is the photo shouldn't have to be explained as that is the job of the photograph and I rarely if ever do that. The reasoning here is the low ratings. Thanks in advance for any comments. Link to comment
mwtphoto 0 Posted July 17, 2012 imho the heads cut off are a distraction, either show the eyes at least or crop the heads out all together. my two cents. cheers. Link to comment
gerald_widen 2 Posted July 17, 2012 Mark, thanks for the comments. Unfortunately this was one of those grab shots with not too much cropping. There was some space cut off from the right. That is my left hand receiving the flyer and my right hand took the photo. Taken with a Fujifilm X100 and didn't account for parallax when looking through the viewfinder. Link to comment
gdw 0 Posted July 18, 2012 Gerald, Mark has a good point; however, even though the partial face is somewhat disturbing I think it is important to the message you wish to convey, the connection between the painting and the photograph, that the viewer sees the facial expressions as limited as that might be. All of the emotion in the photograph is in the partial faces of the two gentlemen. Whether you read the expressions as joy or possibly shyster grins it is an emotion that your photograph needs. Of course, it would have been great to see the full face, at least the eyes, but this is what you have to work with.I am working on an assumption that what you would like to know is how to strengthen the image that you were able to grab. Your title narrows what you feel is important about the photograph to the arm reaching out to the recipient, yourself; the exchange between the two gentlemen and yourself. If you read the title of the pamphlet to reference the concept of "born again" then both the painting and the photograph have religious overtones that adds ties beyond simply the design elements. The image can be strengthened considerably by removing distracting elements that do not add to that story such as the excess area on the right including the manhole cover and the red object on the lower left edge. That will narrow what the viewer sees to the actually important elements.Standard disclaimer: the above is simply my opinion. Link to comment
