stunning, im fascinated by this spider, and everything about it, this image gives me just enough information to make some guesses about its habits and lifestyle etc. what i like the most about this shot, is how he has a web around the seed pod, it tells me you found him here... in this pose...in a natural setting. you got a shot that is very difficult to get. believe me.  ive tried to photograph jumping spiders in the wild...its not easy, bravo!

Thanks Christopher,

Indeed I shoot all insects in their natural environment. I understand that some people capture them and then put them in a state of hibernation to make sure there is no movement, then setup the perfect lighting and background... I personally do not feel good about that method. To me that's like going hunting at the zoo while the animals are sedated...takes away any challenge... But that is just a personal view!

You definitely captured the spider well. My only suggestion would be to crop tighter so as to see more detail. That's the most important aspect of macro photography for me, showing the details that you normally wouldn't see.

On a side note, I'm considering getting the Tokina 100mm macro lens and was was wondering how your experience with it has been?

Thanks for your comments. I get your point about cropping, and noticed higher ratings on such... I personally prefer to show them in context... keep in mind that this spider is less than a half inch...

As for the lens, I have only good things to say about it. It is in fact the lens I use the most. It's a very good portrait and street lens in conjunction with a great macro tool. Hope you get to enjoy it and hope to see the results posted!

Thanks again, Line

Thanks for letting me know your happy with the lens. As for the cropping, it's like everything else, it's a matter of taste. As is I still find the image very good, keep up the good work. When funds permit I plan on getting the lens and hopefully posting some excellent results.
