Very nice. I have tried to explain my feelings on the lack of focus, but will just have to say that I think the focus is fine in this case. IMO.

I've seen a few concert photo here, and I like this one best. Many of those "concert photos" would not be very interesting as just "photos", but this one is. It's a beautiful work. For some reason it reminds me of an LP cover shot.

The softness wasn't intentional. This was shot in a small club in manhattan using relatively weak tungsten lighting. I was hoping that the composition and expression would make up for the slight softness. What do you think? Does it work?

I think it is not soft focus, it is blur caused by her moviment and a slow shutter speed. This is typical in concerts with bad lights as this one.

I like the shot because you 'have stolen' one intense moment of her performance. The only think that I dislike is the red-ish look, but, of course, it is not your fault but provia 1600's. Have you used the new 400F pushed to 1600? It is a marvellous film, even pushed to 3200!

I feel your pain tom, i lost a load of great shots upon bringing my 2.8 zoom instead of my 50mm 1.8, 1600 just wasnt enough under the crappy lighting - 1/30th was the best i could do - but you got MUCH better results, the sharpness is almost a non-issue here, great shot!
