richard blount 0 Posted July 1, 2003 You have done a marvelous job Robert, the sepia tone is perfect too for this candid portrait, his face is wonderful, well done - Richard. Link to comment
marina_bisi 0 Posted July 2, 2003 Fantastic expression! Very well done and I love the choice of the sepia look! Link to comment
pdoyle 0 Posted July 2, 2003 Very nice photo. I find that rating photos becomes easier when there is something to compare, so I offer this as one point of possible comparison for all of us "curators". Link to comment
roberto4 0 Posted July 2, 2003 Philip, I had the photo of Bridget "Violin 2" in my mind as I shoot my fiddler of course! :-) But my never compares to Bridget'S Fiddler! I Link to comment
pdoyle 0 Posted July 2, 2003 Robert, I guess you're being too hard on yourself, because so far your raters feel that yours is the aesthetic equal to Bridget's! That has to feel pretty good, right? Link to comment
roberto4 0 Posted July 2, 2003 Philip, it is only my humble opinion, but I really think so.This guy is a bit different, but the motive is similar . I really find that comparing is always better than an absolute rating. So can everybody has a reference. Link to comment
g1 0 Posted July 2, 2003 It sure is a shame that the focus isn't there, as his expression is pretty good, and I imagine him a jolly person because of it. The fingers are a little close to the bottom frame, but at least they didn't get cut off. I like the sepia toning. Link to comment
g1 0 Posted July 2, 2003 No not blur exactly Robert, lack of detail and clean sharpness. The unsharp mask filter is a bit noticeable too on edges, which does help the lack of focus, but it leaves contrasty halos. Link to comment
sanjeewa_wickramarachi 0 Posted July 3, 2003 Good catch. I think the blur ended up looking like camera shake in the final. Was it that from the start? Link to comment
Coho 2 Posted July 3, 2003 superb expression Robert. Was he playing anything you knew? Link to comment
roberto4 0 Posted July 3, 2003 Yes it is: the hallos! They played some popular jazzy-music so it was difficult to hold the camera with 300mm-zoom (100iso film ) quit ;-) Link to comment
bridget_hunt 0 Posted July 3, 2003 As a subject I think he is excellent. Great face, great expression and movement. I have found when trying to shoot a violinist that they are better side-on as when you shoot them face-on the position looks awkward. As a portrait, I really like it. I think you should come to London and we can work on a book just of violinists! Well done. Link to comment
roberto4 0 Posted July 3, 2003 Thank You! You are rigth. I choosed this because of his eyes though it was a bit blurred. May be I'll post the other this week. And You can be sure I come to London for this shooting, the Book Idea is excellent!! ;-) Link to comment
manu_vermeiren 0 Posted July 4, 2003 I find the expression of his face a bit awkward, I don't like it. It would be better if you lowered your camera a bit, the crop is to tight around his hands, and there is too much space above his head. I do prefer the b/w version. Greetings, Link to comment
