mark jones 0 Posted May 3, 2001 Amy have looked at all your overexposed shots hope you don't mind. I like them all but I think I like this one best because I can see expresion on the face. Almost like the model is lostin her own world. It was hard to chose witch one to pick but I geuss I would say this one for know. I also like the other one I commented on. You do very nic e work hope I can learn from your photos and get better myself. Thanks for sharing! Link to comment
thomas_fly 0 Posted May 6, 2001 You should consider putting yourself on a pedestal- unpretentiously in some photographs, I mean. See Philip Greenspun's photos of "The Three Graces" (and here) for example. You give up some control in self-portraits of course, just as with most digital cameras you give up the ability to precisely capture the moment in action photos, but stick with this model for awhile, just the same.I encourage you to explore digital editing, as a means of putting yourself into scenes that might be awkward to shoot in person. Sitting on Abe Lincoln's big cold lap in Washington, D.C., would be a great shot, for example. The challenge would be to make it so realistic that people would wonder if you actually did it. dan_fain 0 Posted May 7, 2001 Focusing the body instead of the face confronts the viewer in a good way. Instead of discreetly lingering on the face, one is drawn back down to where the image is sharp. Link to comment
thomas_fly 0 Posted May 8, 2001 Or one may be drawn to the lack of focus. The basic simplicity of this photo is its strength, and makes it one of my favorites of this artist (along with the entirely different "Red Light Girl," which seems to have sadly disappeared). Link to comment
liar 0 Posted May 13, 2001 this will be a more powerfull shot if you crop the legs out. and when photos ratio is 1 to 1 (square I mean). thank you for sharing Link to comment
thomas_fly 0 Posted May 19, 2001 I don't agree, but I find the background (chair and floor presumably) a bit distracting- I believe the photo would be made more powerful via digital enhancement. Floating in clouds... against a background of galaxies (reminiscent of 2001:A Space Odyssey)... sitting in a bed of clover... or just with the floor substituted for the chair. Link to comment
kevin_kolosky 2 Posted May 25, 2001 This is so fine. Who cares about the little tcchnicalities in a shot like this. WONDERFUL!!!! Kevin Link to comment
erik_vahalla 0 Posted June 1, 2001 Simply perfect ! The photographer of course. I don't care about the photo. Link to comment
fatboab 1 Posted August 2, 2001 Personally I think this is the best photo out of all the ones you've uploaded to photo.net. I can't put my finger on it, but it's always the one that stands out when I look at your portfolio. The oinly thing that I don't like is the sleeping bag and the fact that you've sort of chopped your bum off. Great effort though, especially for a self portrait. Keep up the good work. gianfranco_vialli 0 Posted August 10, 2001 Well Amy, what can I say? I have to admit you are the most attractive nude model I have seen anywhere for quite some time. The posture with your right hand placed betweeen your legs, a glimpse of your perfectly formed right breast with its nipple erect, head turned upwards and thrown back and eyes shut giving an impression you are in a dreamlike state and experiencing a sense of auto-eroticism (or masturbation). I love the light landing onto your body, what lovely skin you have and very silky looking too, a beautiful face that could only have come from an angel from the height of heaven yet she is facing up at me with all her grace and splendour. I think I am in love! Gianfranco Link to comment
eugbro 2 Posted August 21, 2001 Shot might have been purer had you been able to find a larger opaque surface to position on. Beautiful expression. Link to comment
alan_hancock1 0 Posted October 23, 2001 The head back nude is my favorite of this series. I think it would look better if it was not cropped quite so tight. Link to comment
amypowers 0 Posted October 24, 2001 "I think it would look better if it was not cropped quite so tight." I agree with Eugene Brown, and with you, also. This is full frame, though. I just could not get the camera any higher...I clipped this explanation of the set-up from another photo in the series... "....A bit of background...this picture was taken with me sitting on the island in the middle of my partner's kitchen. The lighting is a single household tungsten bulb in a recessed overhead fixture - the ceiling is about ten feet, and the island about three and a half feet high. I threw some black satin-y type material over the island. Of course, my tripod isn't tall enough to get the angle I wanted, so I wound up putting it on a small stepladder and then tying the legs of the tripod to it! Pretty rickety and it definitely made me nervous, but...I could then prefocus, set the timer, and sort of hop from the ladder onto the island, try not to slide off, as the fabric on the marble counter was very slippery, and pose.Altogether a somewhat Rube Goldberg experience in self-portraits. But I had done some stuff with a very narrow single down spotlight, and I wanted to try a single overhead light that was farther away and broader to see what I got.I also wanted to try deliberately overexposing, since I usually tend to go with darker, more underexposed images. If I could change anything, I would use a matte fabric - the shine of the satin is distracting and the wrinkles don't work." Link to comment
luis_gonzalez2 0 Posted November 12, 2001 Well framed, considering that you were also the model. Unless you framed it later in the software. Still very nice photo. Link to comment
carl_chick 0 Posted November 13, 2001 This is my favorite of your folder. Again, everything in one package. Amazing. Link to comment
squirrelman 0 Posted November 26, 2001 I agree with Carl, this is my favorite in the folder. The focus is soft, but in this case it works to enhance the photo. There are other photos which are much better technically, but IMHO this one is the most natural and erotic looking. Link to comment
armin_seeholzer 0 Posted January 10, 2002 Very sexy and powerfull. I think you should work for a book you would have much success! Just keep rocking! Link to comment
alan_luna 0 Posted February 1, 2002 Grrr!!! I wish I could be near you with that kind of your best-shot positioning, but I'm only just a fanatical viewer of your work-of-art photograph. (Just asking: Who's your "partner" you're referring to, your bf or what?) Count me out! Link to comment
arthur sevestre 0 Posted February 18, 2002 I like this shot most of this folder, because of the pose and the warmth in the expression on your face. Two things are a little disturbing though. The first being that the cropping on the lower side is too tight. I think it would have been better if your whole body would have been in the composition instead of cutting a large part. The second point is that just a very small part of your breast is visible and that it's very light compared to the rest of your body. I think I would have tried to include more of the breast, or not to include it at all. Maybe these two points have occured to you, but because it's a self-portrait, I can imagine that composing a shot is very difficult (My compliments for the whole folder in that aspect! You seem to do very well). I wonder how you do that by the way. Could you tell me something about how you prepare for a shot like this? How about focus, exposure and composition? Link to comment
John Peri 1,038 Posted March 16, 2002 I'm totally enthralled by your photography Amy. It has balance, sensitivity and an acute sense of what the viewer will focus on when seeing the final product. An astute touch of erotism too - it's really quite extraordinary. I really don't see how you do it all on your own. Wow, I would love to have you model for my photos! You would fit in beautifully with what I do ... best wishes. John Peri Link to comment
ezgoing 0 Posted April 6, 2002 I like Overexposed: Head Back Nude. It has many qualities Im trying to capture. The lighting shows many fine details in the back and shoulders. Fine work. Link to comment
william_smyers 0 Posted October 16, 2002 intense, powerful very erotic...dont crop your legs out it would only wreck it very beautiful Link to comment
toby_tyler 0 Posted October 24, 2002 This is a stunningly beautiful shot. Makes you stare into the closed eyes because that's where you are drawn. I think that below the shoulder is superfluous to this shot. Link to comment
roberto_martorelli 0 Posted January 2, 2003 This is my favorite. Nice pose, great exposure ! You are also very beautiful. Nice body ! One suggestion only: you should consider open your eyes. This would me a "complete" nude. We would be able to guess what you were thinking at the time of the shot !!! Link to comment
