doug,  you most certainly produce some lovely orchids.  like the diagonal slant here and colors all suit your b/g,  which even on it's own is very nice.  lovely work!

The inactive background of muted colors complements the subject nicely. It also contrasts beautifully with the diagonal flow of the subject. The one thing that I would consider adjusting is the vertical blade clipped by the right edge. It saps some of the energy of the diagonal flow and it compromises the balance between the space to the lower left of the subject and the upper right. Also, edit the specks in the area on the upper right, they contrast badly with overall quietness of the background.

for the detailed comments. I had actually thought about the right hand leaf, but opted to leave it so as to - i think - "hold" the flower up so to speak rather than have it totally leaning over.

The spots? Interesting that you should mention them. I will certainly try a cloned out version and see - it hadn't crossed my mind at all. Thanks.
