John Peri 1,039 Posted April 29, 2012 It's strange how some people object to shadows in photography, our lives are filled with them in every nuance of the term. I visited the Helmut Newton's Exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris this week, his work is also filled with them, in fact in a video clip which is part of the show he even shows how he adds them sometimes purposefully, as you have done to great effect above. The work is very interesting, both knees are visible though it would be agreeable possibly to also see the shadow of the elbow .. : -). Just joking of course my friend, this is a very fine work, bravo. Link to comment
sideris 0 Posted April 30, 2012 Touchè!! You're right John! I deserve it! her elbow shadow is lost, as I told you I am not reliable with a camera in my trembling hands ;-)) Anyway, you know that your opinions are very important for me. Your comment about the shadows and the relevance given to it for iconic photographers is a valuable essential philosophic discussion, I would be happy if more people could give us an opinion of their point of view. In my case I consider shadows as important as a good lightning is.Contrasts, like in every aspects of our real life, are much more than necessaries, contrasts are the real life by definition. Bright without darken shadows? How can we identify glow without the dark side? And everything, every one, have a dark side, generally more interesting and appealing than the bright side. Hidden values, I say. Ups! I'm so boring sometimes! Thank you my friend. Link to comment
gerfoy3 0 Posted October 17, 2012 Love the use of the tilt to add the extra edge of tension to this image. The replication of the shadow adds to much, the shape of the hand so tense and the slight crop of the door makes me wonder what is just out of the frame. The reflection leading out of the frame creates another wonder of what is beyond.I like it!!! Link to comment
