Below this noose is the unmarked grave or graves of three rustlers

who were lynched by Vigilantes in Sumner county Kansas on July

29, 1874. They are William I Brooks, L.B. Hasbrouck and Charley

Smith ( an alias) who was a one armed man, and thought to be the

son of Ex-Governor Edwards of Illinois. They are buried in the far

South West corner of the Wellington Pioneer Cemetery, Wellington,

KS - plot 273. They were buried there without grave markers by

order of sheriff Davis.
