This aerial view of the streets, highways and waterways of upper

Manhattan, Roosevelt Island, Queens, and part of the Bronx of New York

City is labeled 'Street' because there seems no better category. This

was taken within the last year on a 6 mp camera (EXIF data is wrong as

the date was wrongly set). See if you can locate your favorite NYC

haunt, as detail is exceptional. Your ratings, critiques and remarks

are invited and most welcome. If you rate harshly, very critically,

or wish to make a remark, please submit a helpful and constructive

comment, please share your photographic knowledge to help improve my

photography. Thanks! Enjoy! john

I had in my lap a 6 mp camera, so that's the one I used for this scene as the airplane turned.

Even the lens was not noted for resolution but it was stopped down to f8, its highest resolution aperture and shutter speed was 1/1200 sec.

The airplane was brand new with unscratched windows, though somewhat hazy but greatly resolved in post processing (as usual) by enhancing contrast, which is the usual remedy for shooting through somewhat hazy glass/plastic (airplane passenger side windows are usually plastic if I recall correctly and double paned which results often in unusual reflections, condensation, chemical deposition from moisture deposits after a long time in service).

Longer ago, I recall airlines used brushes to clean airliner outer windows, and with condensation between double panes, it was impossible to take clear photos through passenger windows, but now it appears they may use power water jets and no brushes.

Does anybody know for sure?

Other aerial shots I've taken were from brand new planes, put into service days before (see photo of Mt. Rainier, sunset) and were very successful.

Hi John!

I've been several times in this place, so it's always good to remember nice momments I've enjoyed there...this photo is very clean indeed, with a good DOF and correct colour balance, well done!

Best regards

You never know exactly what I'll post next.

One moment it's street, another it's landscapes, and here it's aerial.

I have many memories of New York City and can practically reconstruct much of what you see here, as it was decades ago, and even more recently.

I began here with my first camera, taking my first roll of film on the Staten Island Ferry (one photo displayed here in its own folder, a keeper for all time).

Thanks for a kind comment.
