This is the remains of West End Mill located at Thruscross reservoir

in the Yorkshire Dales. The village of West End was flooded to

create the reservoir after the completion of Thruscross Dam in 1966.

Normally at this time of year the reservoir is 'full' but, as the dark

coloured bricks at the base of the wall show, the Rreservoir is not at

capacity. This is a sure sign that most of England is going to suffer

from an acute lack of water over the next few months. Some areas of

England already have water restrictions and hosepipe bans. Not

good for the first week of April.

Hi Gareth,

Nice to see such a wonderful landscape shot with the 35mm not stopped down to F/11, 16 or 22 !

Landscapes are best shot where the lens performs best, and that is not at excessive settings unless the lens is really not good to begin with.

This shot is crisp, as using this Nikkor 35mm between F/2.8 and F/5.6 provides the best that tis lens has to offer.

Well done my friend.

Best Regards,  Mike

Hi Mike, thanks for the comment.

I tend not to carry a tripod when I'm walking the dog, as was this case, so need to do what I can to keep the shutter at a sensible speed for hand holding.

This image is more about the coming drought though.

Thanks for looking

Regards

Gareth.

perfect exposure and light... the quite place and the reflection add something to this work

I like the picture, but also the explanation. As you know in Holland water management is important too. Best regards.

A good document. To Indian eyes the fallen water level does not seem alarming. They can, and generally do, drop here by several feet. Water bodies may dry up totally in the hot, dry months before the monsoons.

Lovely location Gareth, beautiful reflections in the water.

The old bricks of the Mill are very interesting to me. Their reflection is beautiful in the water.

Very nice work.

Kind regards, gail

Rajat and Gail, I am so sorry I missed your comments, Thank you both for stopping by.

Margaret, thanks for the comment. This was a hand held shot though and intended more as a documentry image of the impending water shortage. I plan to revisit the scene in the summer months and will lug my tripod along.

Best regards to all

Gareth.
