f9, ISO 3200, 1/10 shutter speed....?? this shot in full manual. Were these setting intentional?  The photo's details are soft in this...I do not find that bad necessarily in this photo, it is obviously a very precious shot, but would it be improved (sharpness wise) with f5.6, 1/60, ISO 3200 or ISO 1600?

Thanks...Ellery

Thank for your comment Ellery, it is appreciated and well taken. Just to explain to you, that although I agree with the sharpness issue you correctly raise, I had to battle because it was in the spur of the moment in very low lighting conditions, so I was constrained to use a high ISO number. Even when I realized this while analyzing and working with the photograph, I nonetheless decided to uploaded using the soft-focus effect, especially since it was in B/W, taking advantage of the "unwritten" rules of B/W and the permissiveness inherent, if there is such a thing. One way or another, I have seen that this type or subject theme of photos look quite pleasing with the soft-focus effect.

Thanks again for the time you devoted to commenting and analyzing this image.

Regards.

it was the f9 that puzzled me though - if low light, generally I open it up a bit more than f9........but I agree...I do like the soft effect as well...in the end it is a compelling image either way!  Take care

Daniel, It is a marvelous sensation indeed! almost a miracle... so tiny these little fingers moving and touching...so precious is life.  Perhaps a welcome to a future member to photo.net, who knows? :))  Excellent photograph and very best wishes
