This is digital alteration draws from 3 different images; one for shadow, one

for highlight, and one for the pelican. My goal was to make it look dramatic,

Very nice composite. You have done a very good job of blending the three shots into one. Yes it does look natural. If I didn't know better I would be saying "What a lucky catch. It works very well.

It does look genuine and the bird really brings life to this scene.Bravo for a job well done.

I agree with the other two, this looks very genuine and almost seamless.  I think the reason it works so well is you have not exaggerated the lightening of the shadow area which would have given this a more HDR look. On closer inspection there is a slight fringing line along shadowed stones against the sky but it is very light and barely noticeable.  Regards - michel
