An Evening

The composition here is fine. It's the light that I question.  The lighting seems quite flat, with the range of light quite restricted throughout most of the frame. Places where I would expect shadows or reduced light are instead surprisingly bright.  I can't even tell where the sun is likely located.  To my eye, the light  looks artificial and unnatural, and that adversely affects the photograph.  Perhaps it's just a matter of needing more contrast -- I'm not certain.
