This is a picture of my mother. She is a very beautiful woman and she is

a great mother!

I am just getting started with lighting, but this is not my first attempt. I

used one SB-900 shot through an umbrella . For the hair light I used a

set-up that I bought from the hardware. Made a snoot out of an empty

beer box.

Please offer critiques, I would like to improve my photography.

Hi , I teach portrait photography at a college, and I think that this shot for a person who is a beginner is remarkably competent and is to be applauded, making or modifying your own lighting  equipment to suite the shot and being able to improvise is what photography is about, and I'm sure your mom is pleased with it, congratulations well done.
