dankapsner 0 Posted February 24, 2012 This has an old quality that I like very much--it reminds me of a slightly faded slide from another time.... Link to comment
elportebonheur 0 Posted February 25, 2012 I know that arrowheads over your front door are believed to prevent burglars from getting into your home. The act of hanging a protective charm - like these fishing lures - on our windows to bring luck or keep evil spirits out of our homes is new for me, but came in my mind first... I like this one very much, Jack - still loads of room for interpretation. Compliments! Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted February 26, 2012 Jack, interesting composition with frames within frames. The light inside the room, offers very good contrast, with light outside the building. El's comment enabled me to appreciate the significance of the hanging hooks. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted February 26, 2012 I like that the tones of the lures outside invite and inform the tones of the room beyond. The softness and glow move this into the realm of dreams and recollections. Link to comment
amysn 0 Posted February 26, 2012 Super composition. The title is begging for a poem, based on this photo. My brother is a fisherman, .... Link to comment
cyanatic 0 Posted February 28, 2012 Jack, I find this just lovely. Maybe it's the fisherman in me, but I find this warm and honest, evocative of glassy lakes at dawn, the excitement of making that first cast into a patch of lilypads. Don't mean to wax poetic here, but I love the lineup of lures, the seeming warmth inside. Its...nice. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 28, 2012 This is a very nice composition and title . I like the monochromatic whole with the colored lures? Very good light and DOF, inside/outside. I like El's explanation. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted February 28, 2012 Thanks for the comments on this picture; I really didn't think it would get that much response. As the title indicates, my brother is a dyed-in-the-wool fisherman who takes his Boston Whaler out into the ocean off the coast every chance he gets. Those lures you see hanging off the window sill are hand made, going so far as.melting lead into a mold, attaching the hooks and painting them himself. I'm always impressed when someone does anything really well, and I'd have to say that when it comes to fishing, Tim could cross poles with any angler I know. The brightly colored lures have a totemesque quality, which EPB astutely pointed out and which a couple of others have commeted about. I had to wait until it was almost dark to get the interior of the room without too much reflection. Not too "arty" I think; a picture even my brother might appreciate. Link to comment
