Oak Reflections (Redux)

carol_watson

Taken in Night Shot mode with the two filters mentioned and EV adjusted down by -.3 of a stop. In this new version, I adjusted the contrast and did a little work in Curves in PS 7.

A very beautiful photo Carol, it seems IR has caught on, I love the curve of the pool and the reflection in the water. I too have been thinking of getting some IR filters. Have a good trip to New Orleans - Richard.

Carol, I'd suggest some contrast/brightness correction. Maybe it's not your taste, but I think this improves - look at attached image!

This composition, as is, already deserves good ratings. And of course, giving the contrast that Andrash suggests in his first example, could enhance this nice picture.

Nice shot - somehow, I just can't seem to get the hang of this, guess I need to play more in PS, or maybe my cameras just won't do this. At any rate, the composition is first class, as is almost all of your other work. I think there are few things to critique about this image. 6/6 --Rich

Gorgeous backyard Carol...mine is a meadow of wild flowers, in other words a mess. ;)

I like the first example too with more desaturation. Lovely shot.

Good Luck and lots of fun in New Orleans!

It is a good place to take a IR-Pict. And it is well composed as a "normal" one. The contrast is too low for me and my monitor. I'll suggest to enhence the contrast, correcting also the brightness. I also think about to change the contrast on the reflection part. I gave it a 5/5 and I am sure with some changes it could get more! ;-). You must continue IR on the oak tree and water reflection!

An impressive result for testing a new technique. I really like the mood, and the composition is fine, although perhaps I'd have prefered the edge of the pool to lead towards the centre rather than away. (I don't know if that's possible with the shape of this pool.)It's a lovely, well manicured backyard, but maybe too sterile, too perfectly groomed to be a really evocative picture. I wonder if a well placed figure would add some sparkle? Perhaps this style will catch on and be the next fashion for gardening magazines.

Wonderful photo. Excellent composition. Love the reflection. I do wish there were a little more contrast. But overall very nice. I just got an IR filter as well but havent had a chance to use it. Congratulations on two new cameras. Enjoy your trip.

Replaced with a new version based on everyone's feedback! Added contrast and adjusted Curves in PS 7. One thing I did differently than the approaches suggested by others is that I focused my contrast and curves changes on all parts of the photo except the pool reflection -- which I liked as it was. I admit that I like this version better and certainly appreciate the suggestions! :-) You may need to perform a Reload of this page to view this new version.
