stp 6 Posted February 19, 2012 Perhaps the oversaturaton of the clothing and such other treatments are to camouflage the important parts of the photograph, like the facial expressions, as if to intentionally draw the attention away early and to save the treats for last. This assumption seems to me to involve a huge leap of faith in explaining the completely hidden motivations of another person. It is a much shorter leap of faith to assume that Randy is no different from most of the rest of us. Color is impressive to most viewers of a photograph, and color is very easy to manipulate in a digital photograph. It seems to be human nature to believe that if a little bit of anything is good, then even more will be that much better. Hence, we make color photographs that are oversaturated. That's my assumption. Perhaps I'm fooling myself in thinking this assumption involves a much shorter leap of faith simply because it is my own.In the end, only Randy can tell us why the colors in his photograph have this degree of saturation. I'm struck by how much time and effort we spend trying to discern the motivations of the photographer in these POW discussions. We're probably better off just describing our reactions to what we see, because that requires no leap of faith at all. However, wanting to understand and explain why someone did something also seems to be a part of human nature, and so it goes. Link to comment
