otto_b 0 Posted January 26, 2012 Wonderful photo! I spent a bit of time thinking about it, but even if I try to be nit picky about it, there is really nothing that could make it any better than it is. That splash of yellow that really grabs your attention and then almost forces you to look away because there is so much more to the photo is just a great touch. It turns what would have been a good quality photo into something special. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted January 27, 2012 Yes, I think the composition holds together. I sense this is the end (or beginning?) of the day, and light is hitting the bright yellow boat while leaving the mountain in the background mostly in shade and not showing much detail. The boat pulls everything to the left, and the openness to the right doesn't matter much. I think that's why it holds together for my eyes. Link to comment
atle.g 0 Posted January 27, 2012 Thanks for the comments folks!!This photo was taken not long before dark. Its a photo that i like because of the memories its bringing back...and that is often problematic in terms of judging it in a objective way. My main concern is the right side, a lot of space with not much going on, giving all the weight on the left side.Otto and Stephen sums it well up i think...the boat takes most of the attention and holds it. But the empty space at the right does not ruin the overall impression. And that was the issue i was hoping to get feedback on. Luckely for this photo it was positive...Thanks! Link to comment
stp 6 Posted January 27, 2012 What we said may hold true, but when you throw in the fact that the photo brings back a lot of memories, then there is no question. It's one thing to have a photo you may want to enter into a local photo competition, quite another to have a personal photo that has meaning for you. Here you have the latter but it's also a good photo in it's own right -- the best of all possibilities. Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted February 9, 2012 I agree that this is a winner both ways. In the larger view, the lake and distant mountain come alive. It is a beautiful, peaceful scene. Link to comment
tonyfrench 0 Posted March 27, 2012 Atle, I think the yellow boat amid all the cool tones, and that the light is hitting it really does pull your immediate attention to it. I also think the right side of the image is equally important and not at all empty, it's divide nicely into various tonal and textural areas of the cloudy sky, the mountain, and the shadowed and light areas of the water.
