I finally found the time and the opportunity to have another go at Portraits. Ashton, a first time model, kindly gave up a few hours of her time for me to experiment with camera and lenses. It was a fun time and as we both relaxed the images seemed to get better.

So, whilst I had a lovely and responsive model with whom to work, your comments and assistance will certainly contribute towards me getting better for a return scheduled shoot in a week or so.

I have posted a number of images in her folder..... these were early morning shots taken in a shaded back garden... with reflectors and backdrops... wow, so much to remember............

Your comments are welcomed.

Hi Grayham,

It is nice to have a good model to work with. Her personality adds to her attractiveness.

You did well using the 110mm lens setting at F/2.8.

As for the backdrops and reflectors, I would suggest using a good fill flash unit.

You would not have the intense light on her right arm , either.

Best Regards,  Mike

The reflection from the intense light on her right arm reflects a warm light onto her right cheek and neck while the rest of her face has a blue cast from the sky light.  The low catch lights in her eyes is caused by that same reflection.  The direction of the main light seems to be the soft overhead sky light.  I removed the blue color cast on her face and then reduce the saturation of the yellow so as to not add too much yellow overall in making the correction.  I hope this is helpful from the technical standpoint.  You have a very nice looking model with good expression.

It seems the photographer and model were having fun. Result: a charming portrait.  Yes, the color correction is right.  But the fundamental artistry was great from the first.

Thanks for stopping by, your comment about fill-in flash is well taken. This first shoot was probably more about getting comfortable with each other, the camera, poses and so on. Hopefully our next shoot will continue from where we left off (here) and I will not intimidate her by setting up a flash/umbrella etc.

Looking forward to it.

Other eyes see things differently. I had not noticed the blue tinge (until now) and I'm still not sure how it happened. Having looked at the other images (either side of this one) it's still a mystery.

Thank you for your time and interest, your corrected version looks spot on.... thank you so much.

If you have the time, I would appreciate your input on the other images in her folder.

Best regards

Nice to have you visit. I once read a photographers comment about his best images being those towards the end of the shoot.... stuck in my mind I guess. Ashton was far more relaxed and compliant towards the end and I guess starting to have fun..........  far less "wooden" than at the begining.

Thank you for your time and kind comments.

Regards

ps. an easy model to work with and I had fun as well.

I think it is wonderful you are still persuing Portraiture Grayham. She is very pretty and I shall enjoy taking a 'boo' at your other shots of her as well.

Keep up the good work.

Sincere regards, Gail

Yes, Ashton is a lovely young girl, currently studying Business Administration at University. Our work and study schedules seem to get in the way of another shoot at the moment.... but I'm sure we'll sort some time soon.

Thanks for stopping by.

Best regards
