orourke 0 Posted January 12, 2012 I took this shot when I lived in LA in the late seventies. This was taken on a weekend getaway somewhere outside Los Angeles in 1979. It was originally exposed in color with my old trusty Nikkormat Ft2 and a 50mm F2 lens, This past week I had the negative scanned and I converted it to b&w in Fastone in my continuing quest to self learn the digital post process.Beyond the conversion I've done little else to this image other than a sligt dropoff in highlights and a very small crop to eliminate a distracting stone in the bottom right corner, It's an experiment so any comments and critiques will be most helpful. You may rate the photo also if you like and have the time. Thank you for looking Bill O'Rourke Link to comment
stp 6 Posted January 13, 2012 I think the conversion is great. I thought maybe the falls ought to be a bit brighter, but perhaps they are relatively thin or shallow and the background is showing through somewhat. I think you controlled the wide tonal range very well (I would have expected the background sky to be too bright, but it's been handled effectively). Nice work. Link to comment
