bojepsen1 0 Posted January 8, 2012 Great photograph, Jeff. Very good composition, lovely colours, great texture. I very much like the colour of the ground, very vivid, and the roughness of the bark. Well done. Link to comment
frigo 4,155 Posted January 8, 2012 Great take on somebody's good idea to make a straight line out of the path in this forest of giants.I like how you have captured the light percolating through the bit of green of the tree tops to create the strip of color in the center of the frame.Bravo for an excellent image!Meilleures salutations-Laurent Link to comment
vetterhome1 0 Posted January 8, 2012 Perfect lines and the cutted make it interesting. Link to comment
chrisruhl 0 Posted January 8, 2012 very cool shot! I really like all of the lines, both real and implied by this shot. I wonder if you could have added some more by moving a bit to the right so that some space is visible between the trees on the left ? eh, maybe, maybe not :)Thanks for sharing!-chris Link to comment

seandepuydt 2 Posted January 9, 2012 This will go into my "fav" category. Nicely done, Jeff. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted January 9, 2012 One can get views like this only in plantations -- regularly spaced trees and a dense canopy that doesn't allow any understory to grow. It's a good place to spend a cloudy day. The regular spacing of the trees catches the eye, but it's really the golden color of the fallen needles that makes the photo, IMO. We have cottonwood plantations in this part of the world that are similar, and they have phenomenal growth rates. Unfortunately, they are usually surrounded by barbed wire and access is restricted. mario2 0 Posted January 10, 2012 Here you done a marvelous job!You took the most under that weather conditions. Best regards Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted January 12, 2012 Thanks for all the comments. My apologies for tardiness, i have had no broadband for a few days. This place is a public reserve. I wanted to photograph it like this and also with snow. Normally, the light is far too strong but this day was overcast. I have been to this place many times and knew the image that I wanted so it was a pretty fast shoot. Link to comment
color 3 Posted January 14, 2012 Pretty shot. Nice use of color, but I'm not so sure about the composition. Is this tone mapped? Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks Chuck, what would you change in the composition? This isn't tone mapped. I wouldn't know where to start doing that. Does it look that way? Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted January 15, 2012 This is hugely clever, and quite successful IMHO. I really like it a lot too. I agree with Stephen that the golden needles are an important element, and I also think that the cut logs kind of higgledy-piggly really accentuate and contribute to the depth of the image. Good eye to see this one, Jeff. Happy New Year to you, my friend! Cheers! Chris Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks Chris. I've been waiting for the right weather for this shot for a couple of years. Happy New Year to you, I look forward to seeing what you produce this year. Link to comment
color 3 Posted January 15, 2012 Hi Jeff,I played with this a little to end up with what for me was a more satisfying composition. That ended up being cropping a little off the left. When I mentioned "tone mapping" I was referring to what I thought was the effect of the software you mentioned to me. I have downloaded it myself BTW, haven't gotten it working yet, but look forward to giving it a good tryout. Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks Chuck, I see what you mean but it loses a little of the centred feeling that I was after. Next time I get a chance, I'll experiment a bit more. Link to comment
wolfgangarnold 142 Posted February 8, 2012 impressive photo. I definitely prefer your original more centered version. As others have mentioned already: colours are superb - the clear composition provides a wonderful stage for subtle colours. I particularly like how faint green shows in a thin line through the branches.Best regards, Wolfgang Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted February 9, 2012 Thanks Wolfgang. I think that the green is vital. It just wouldn't work without it. I had to wait for a strongly overcast day to get the effect. Even then, I had a little blown detail to recover. Link to comment
