nice use of a hotter saturation emulsion AND circ pol.. gotta love that deep blue sky and puffy white clouds (something to do, perhaps, with living in Smoggy So. Cal, where seldom is such a sight seen!) if you're into astrophotography (star trails, meteor showers and such), this is the IDEAL foreground to use, methinks--but i digress. i like the shot very much, the eye keeps wanting to go to the top right corner, see what the VLA is "seeing"; strong "leading lines" at work here. nice composition, wonder what it'd look like if there was a tad more ground in the frame?

Love the crunched horizon line and the massive sky. Wish I had a photograph like this from my visit to the VLA. Perhaps a return trip is needed. What a classic shot!

I think you could do a lot with the levels in this. If you bring in the ends of each channel to the first bars of the histogram, this is what you get:

I agre with Alistair, the levels make this wonderful photograph much more agreeable to the eye. But as with all PS tweaks that look good on the web, will it print well with that much leveling? :)

Christian, A master stoke, compositionally, to have included so much interesting sky with only a sliver of foreground. I would love to have explored this area, with some shots being closer to the first dish, giving it more prominence. Best, LM.

This is indeed a Nice image, evidently enough to be sold to an Astronomy book! great stuff ;).

That said, I would have loved to see this a little less polarised at the top (still love those deep blues) and maybe have the main satalite (spelling ;p) seperated from the one following it, get me? however, this may have upset the overall composition so who am I to nit pick. The other one with the levels adjusted may have gone better too...

How'd it turn out?
