Nice gradations in the gray, and even a slight reflection.  Other than the simplicity, I think the strength of the photo will depend considerably on the strength of the object protruding from the water.  Here, the photo may suffer a bit in the minds of some viewers because it's not readily apparent (at least to me) what the object is, and I don't think there is a lot of inherent aesthetic appeal in the object itself.  IMHO, of course.

You've taken minimalism to new heights (or depths, depending how you look at things). Actually minimalism isn't quite the appropriate description for the beauty here lies largely with the soft variations of tone and the subtle reflection of the object in the water.
