allan engelhardt 0 Posted April 20, 2001 I love the colors and I like the simplicity of the composition. Maybe having an illuminated element somewhere in the coposition (lower left, instead of lamp) would improve it? Link to comment
sefrioui_reda 0 Posted April 21, 2001 just beautiful colors one of the best i have seen in here including the POW rating 9,8 ...yep and trust me i don't give that kind of rating often Link to comment
legaleus 0 Posted August 31, 2001 You made me look. Great composition, exposure and timing. Of course the weather helped but having the presence of mind to "see" this shot....very good. Link to comment
gerry_clarke 0 Posted September 4, 2001 I can't help but think that some of these other people rating you are being a bit harsh. 2,2 come on this is a least an orginal photo and it is certainly different from the most of the ho hum photos posted at this site. Link to comment
bernhard 0 Posted September 7, 2001 Dan, I don't understand what you mean by 'timing' and 'having the presence of mind to "see" this shot'. I think that you are seeing something that I don't see. This shot was made when I left work at dusk, stone tired (so much to presence of mind) and the contrast between the dark blue sky and the lamps on the parking lot 'forced' me to take this picture. I really like to know what YOU saw in this picture. Link to comment
legaleus 0 Posted September 8, 2001 When I first saw this shot my thoughts turned on its "other world" appearance. This would make great art for an Arthur C. Clarke novel. My comment concerning presence of mind has to do with the fact that most of us would have driven by this opportunity without a glance, to say nothing of hauling our gear back and forth to work each day. I "see" nothing more than you did, in fact I see exactly what you recorded. I'm referring to your photographic sight, which by the way is obviously well developed. As to timing, one or two missed traffic lights and this shot never happened. By the way, very nice photograph! Link to comment
jonathancharlesphoto 2 Posted September 26, 2001 OK so you're the "Angry Young Artist" - it's still a great picture, your best so far. Link to comment
acer iddibhai on aim 0 Posted October 10, 2001 my first thoughts: something out of star trek (that is a compliment!). Link to comment
marc1 0 Posted October 26, 2001 The thing that I see, is its the 'war of the worlds' only needs the tenticals and you have the whole film in one shot, nice car park you have! Link to comment
tony_dummett 0 Posted November 12, 2001 I was trying to think what it reminded me of, then I read Marc's comment. Well put. This is a really beautifully composed abstract that holds more than the thumbnail reveals. The complementary colors normall wouldn't work for me, but in this case I can't imagine anything better. peter_daalder 0 Posted January 4, 2003 OK yes, I accept your point about these not being street lights, but light pollution friendly they certainly are! ;-) Link to comment
staticlag 0 Posted December 16, 2003 Nice shot, Might I ask, how did you meter it? -Dan Link to comment
bernhard 0 Posted December 17, 2003 Thanks for your comment Dan. "Might I ask, how did you meter it?" I don't remember exactly, but most likely I spot metered for the highlights (in this case the lamps) and opened up 1 or 2 stops. It might have been that I considered the resulting exposure time too slow for the 85 handheld and gave less exposure (knowing that slide films tolerate underexposure better than overexposure). I guess that's what I did and why the pic looks so dark, but at that time I was using and old LS2000 scanner at my workplace and didn't know anything about scanning. Link to comment
sarahkane 0 Posted June 1, 2004 I think this photo is one of my favourites in your portfolio, I'm not sure how it got such a low average. The play between the complimentary colours makes this photo unique and very pleasing to the eye. Great job! Best wishes, Sarah Kane Link to comment
bernhard 0 Posted June 1, 2004 Hi Sarah, thanks for your kind comment. This is one of my first pics here on photo.net and was mostly rated at a time when the ratings were lower (and more appropriate) on average. BTW I enjoy comments much more than ratings, so thanks for taking the time. Link to comment
