Autumn in the Desert

Intersection Rock, Hidden Valley in Joshua Tree National Park

An example of the Mojave Desert experiencing it's fall color. I was

leading a night photography and light painting workshop over the past

weekend here. We experienced all kinds of weather that we took

advantage of such as the mist in the air seen in this photograph. It

was from what I was used to seeing at Joshua Tree and knew it would

have a painterly feel to the unique scene. Christina had come out to

visit the evening before and after a late dinner we walked around

Twenty-Nine Palms (aka the Oasis of Murals) in the light rain enjoying

the many murals along the main street of small desert town. Perhaps a

thought while I was creating this image, is I was thinking if I could

create a mural of my own it would look like this. My brother John is

an artist and was a well compensated one at one time. He has done

quite a few murals in his lifetime but just not lately. So this one is

for him!

About the Processing: It's a 2 shot panorama and shooting it at dawn

after the rain gave it the cool tones. The camera was set to landscape

in capture and for the most part besides burning the edges I just

added a little contrast to the shrubs in the foreground. Finding mood

and the timing is what made the scene.

Definitely a muralscape Steve. Nice muted colors, with real ethereal feel to it. Sounds like unusual weather for that area. Great stuff - looking forward to more...

All the best,
Neil
