slava_kozlov 0 Posted June 4, 2003 Alright - I don't understand the composition. Why is there so much black on the right? It almost makes it look like the inside of a greeting card (in black). It's difficult not to suppose all the black framing is artificial. To my eye it looks better with the courtyard dominating some more of the photo.Very pleasant otherwise. Link to comment
rich_evans 0 Posted June 5, 2003 This is one of the few instances where I think that the frame really adds to the picture. The color/contrast is what makes this a successful image. The only thing that jars me just a bit is the arch of the doorframe and the arch between the two pillars don't coincide - a minor nit, but I like symetry ;-) --Rich Link to comment
jnapel 0 Posted June 5, 2003 I just love the composition. The blackness on the right is very intriguing and so non-mainstay.Very original. Link to comment
annestocker 0 Posted June 5, 2003 love the simpleness of life depicted - great job w/color and framing. Link to comment
john_mckend 0 Posted June 6, 2003 Excelent, imaginative presention. It really focuses your attention on the subject.Lovely Link to comment
indywatchman 0 Posted June 6, 2003 I like your attempt to break with the regular way pictures are composed. All great photographers have found their way out of the box. But, there is a lot of competition for attention going on here. With a little work it could be made much better. What exactly are you trying to convey? Link to comment
livvie 0 Posted June 6, 2003 lovely location ... well observed and displayedre your choice of frame - its a break from the norm and works well - as a suggestion i would add a small detail from the pic on the "dark side"... possibly the hint of pattern of the frame in a gold shade Link to comment
john_paskey 0 Posted June 6, 2003 Very original. Great composition. Good color and framing. Sharpness is not so good though but the comnposition is what makes this photo stand out and the sharpness is just good enough to make it work. Link to comment
teaman 0 Posted June 6, 2003 There is a 'lot' of black added to the film - I think. With that much bright sun light outside - the inside has to be lot brighter. In that sense it must fall into a manipulated picture. OR it must be a reflection on a mirror in a dark room. Could you please post the original one without any darkening. Nevertheless - the photo itself looks great and wonderful. Good vision. Link to comment
kevin.breit 0 Posted June 7, 2003 Delightful photo. I am not a big fan of the frame, but that's not part of the photo :) I love how the entrance is off to the side and there is a lot of black, it sets the focus. I think it maybe a little better if the pilar wasn't in the doorway tho. Link to comment
chong shi hou 0 Posted June 7, 2003 Excellent !!! I like the off-centre composition, with delightful pale orange color wall standing out of the black... very attractive !!! Great job. :) Link to comment
j.d._reineke 0 Posted June 13, 2003 Interesting composition, though I must admit the lack of any detail at all bugs me a bit. The complete darkness competes for my attention. Link to comment
jody 0 Posted June 21, 2003 I like the composition, but I might suggest removing the frame, and letting the picture stand on its own. I think the lighting, colors, originality of the crop are all wonderful. very Europe! Link to comment
dennis_couvillion 2 Posted June 24, 2003 It is a beautiful photo, and the unusual composition is daring; however, the amount of blackness on the right is bothersome. Overall, your work is very interesting. Keep it up. Dennis Couvillion Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted June 28, 2003 Patricia; It seems to me that you broke some rules on this one-- but it works because of the color, brightness, and interest of the subject beyond the doorway. Cool photo! I should have rated it when I fisrst saw it but didn't quite know how to deal with it. 6/6! Cheers. Craig Link to comment
sean_oflaherty 0 Posted June 29, 2003 Maybe you could try to get this effect without so much black area. Link to comment
John Crowe 165 Posted July 12, 2003 I have not had much luck yet in composing these images framed in a dark foreground. Well done! I do agree though that the large black space to the right does not need to be there. Again absolutely beautiful framing of the opening with the 3 complimentary arches of the opening header, the portico header, and the window across the alley! Link to comment
