This is Saint-Sauveur church in Quebec city. I took that photo with

a tripod and to help me, I set the Nikon coolpix 950 digital camera

in the manual mode. I must say. that using the spot metering of the

camera helped me a lot shooting in those quite difficult conditions.

I agree. Excellent lighting and lots of interesting detail bounces the eyes around the photo in a pleasing way. Nice work.

Gaetan, this is my favorite of your recent images.I do know how difficult it can be to get a proper exposure under conditions such as this.I have always been a firm believer in spot metering and I am sure you are too now. What I like about this image is the fact that the white lights are not blown out and actually help emphasize the darker portions of the image.Perfect exposure and color, well done.

Very very impressive. (Definitely not faint praise.)

I'm curious, have you tried taking multiple exposures, say one for highlights and another for shadows and blending them together? I'm the author of Optipix and I'd like to give you a copy to play with if you're interested.

Right now I'm trying to come up with exposure series (1/2, 1/4, 1/8, .., 1/128) that fully brackets a scene for creating a high dynamic range image. (Let's not even address the problem of what to do with it when you're done.) Since I don't have the talent that y'all have for composing these images, I'm relagated to writing plugins to "massage" the images.

Stunning. 7/7

Thank you Chris for your comments.

I have not tried taking multiple exposures, say one for highlights and another for shadows and blending them together.

My technique was simple : I used spot metering with my Nikon digital camera and a tripod. My camera was in manual mode so I can put my preference setting for shooting. With my experience I was able to find the best spot for my camera to permit to get excellent exposure (I learned a lot shooting sunsets).

Thank you for your offer but I do not use Photoshop to edit my photo. I use PaintShop Pro. I must say that I did not master editing my photo. With PaintShop I use only the easieat tools to edit.
