legaleus 0 Posted April 18, 2001 So often images of flowers capture the flower but not its beauty. You have done both in this shot. I choose this or perhaps your ship in the mist for POW. Oh why not both. Wonderful composition, exposure, and lighting. Link to comment
think27 0 Posted April 27, 2001 I am awestruck. Speechless. I keep looking at your flower images and each one is better than the last. This is one I'd actually like to inquire if you make prints and sell?? I've never asked that of any of the images I've seen on photo net... Wonderful! 10+10 Link to comment
g1 0 Posted June 11, 2001 what an impact this left me with ....... I just melted, I'm stunned....this is an experience far beyond adjectives Link to comment
terrence_kent 0 Posted June 12, 2001 This is your best folder, bill. O man, I am going to switch to provia, thats final! Selective DOF makes this image so much more than the usual stop all the way down crap i do for macro. You inspire me, sir! Link to comment
p_f1 0 Posted June 29, 2001 Truely amazing. One photo I don't think I will ever forget. Link to comment

louis tsai 0 Posted August 27, 2001 Indeed it is a beautiful image of a flower in macro. well done. Link to comment
pawel oziemblowski 0 Posted August 27, 2001 I'm glad macro work has got POW. Although outstanding it's beautiful as many other close-up of flowers, beetle, etc. Beauty of nature marco works is very often neglected, something unnoticed, treated like a cliche, unresonably in my opinion. It's probably since many people are not sensitive to the beauty of the nature, and every such photo looks the same for them. Furthermore they're looking for emotions in the pictures, something they can't find in nature photos of course. That is why people photos are much more popular. Link to comment
think27 0 Posted August 27, 2001 I've loved this image for quite some time and still wish I had a nice big print. This is an exquisite shot! Congratulations on a well deserved POW. Link to comment
john_joosten 0 Posted August 27, 2001 I like the displayed view of the flower, the use of light and colors and the composition. I only wonder if you did edit the picture digitally ?? I'm having a little trouble with the sharpness being only in the center of the flower. Link to comment
bruce_olsen1 0 Posted August 27, 2001 I'm especially impressed with the lighting. I'm guessing it's backlit and also has a highly difused front light source. Do you care to tip your hand? Link to comment
nick_s 0 Posted August 27, 2001 When I saw the thumbnail for the POW, I though "what the heck (actually, it wasn't "heck", but you get the idea"). My initial response was based upon what seemed to be a lack of punch in the colors of the flower and the fact that *until now* I have not really appreciated the flower macro. Like Pawel said, I was of the belief that flower macros lacked emotion and are somewhat cliched. BUT, when I opened up the larger image, what can I say but WOW! What I originally perceived as a "lack of punch" was in fact some of the most wonderously muted and delicate colors I have yet seen in a photograph! The delicacy of the petals is enhanced by the delicacy of the lighting, and I do believe I had an emotional reaction to it. Truly outstanding - and congratulations (especially on this being your second POW). If I may, I would also like to inquire whether any special lighting techniques were used. Link to comment
tio borracho 0 Posted August 27, 2001 As soon as I saw the picture I just loved it.Great soft colors. Just beautyfull Link to comment
david___5 0 Posted August 27, 2001 Wow!!! is what I thought when I saw the photo of the flower. Normally, flower or plant photos don't do much for me. But this one is incredible. You got everything just right on it. I don't know if you did it available light, or set up complex lights -- I'll think it was available. Seriously, what a great photograph. For those that know me, know I rarely ever say that about photos. ESPECIALLY flower ones. Great job. Link to comment
Stock-Photos 1 Posted August 27, 2001 The 3D look and the super smooth colors make this macro very unique. Link to comment
richard_seery 0 Posted August 28, 2001 Truly an outstanding image. Congrats on a job well done. Link to comment
mottershead 0 Posted August 28, 2001 While the lighting, color, and translucence of the petals are indeed beautiful, I am a little disturbed by the fact that the central globe of petals almost sits on the bottom edge of the frame. I would have liked to see a bit more distance between it and the frame. Link to comment
samuel_dilworth 0 Posted August 28, 2001 This is one of the most sensual photographs I have ever seen. There is a delicacy and tenderness expressed with a nakedness so palpable that it evoked pity in me. I know nothing about flowers, and less about macro photography, so appreciate this photograph in the most innocent and pure way possible. Often I find that we most enjoy what we least know about. havanai 0 Posted August 28, 2001 Beautifully exectuted photograph. The selective focus, the coloration and gradation from pink to white are wonderfully done. My only suggestion to improve the photographs would be better balance between the amount of white petals to the top and bottom. The focal point of the coloration, the center of the bud is too low in my opinion. I'd like to see more of the whiteness of the lower petals for better balance. But, I think it is a very appealing and beautiful photograph. Nicely done! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 28, 2001 It is a really nice photograph, I like the look of it, but flower macros are all over the place, end of story...Nothing original here, in my opinion. Link to comment
animalu 0 Posted August 28, 2001 What I really like about the shot is the motion I see. I can see the flower opening up right before my eyes. Cool shot! Link to comment
naveen_agnihotri 0 Posted August 28, 2001 As amazing as this photograph is, I find it equally amazing that Dan Michael (in the first comment above) managed to predict, on April 17, the exact two images of Bill Storage that would be POW. Amazing! Link to comment
